My First Mac

I work and play a lot on Microsoft Windows products line and Linux OS Based distribution such as Debian, Ubuntu, Centos, etc.

I have no idea why I was decided to take a MacBook to be my portable computer. Well, at least I know what a real mac can do rather than installing hackintosh on my virtual machine. I bought early 2014 13″ Macbook Air and that’s the only model right? preinstalled with maverick.

Working on mac is bit different than PC hardware especially keyboard. I need to learn how to operate it, it’s not simple really. CTRL ALT HOME END are my friends in last 20 years and you didn’t find a backspace button on its keyboard. I was amazed with this keyboard layout but at last I know how to operate them. The most use button is command key represent by this symbol ⌘. That button is a great friend and pressed every time.

Now, about trackpad operation. I have Lenovo and its trackpad mimicking Mac trackpad but it’s only scroll. In Mac, trackpad operation represent as shortcut for almost desktop operation, not only for scrolling. Moving between desktop, showing desktop, switching between apps are very comfortable. It’s just amazing feature.

Macbook air use Intel processor and it’s possible to use Windows over Mac platform. Apple facilitate dual booting by Boot Camp. Honestly, when I installed Windows 8.1 I was disappointed because all goodness I’ve got on Mac OS X are gone. Display brightness is very low and the sound become quiet. I was planned to use Windows 8.1 to present .NET apps to clients when needed but I decided to not use it because it will eat too much space in very limited SSD storage.

Overall, I am pleased owning a mac.
